GIS for Humanists

Via discussion and interactive exercises, this 2-hour hands-on workshop introduces selected GIS and mapping techniques commonly used by Humanities scholars.

Specifically, the workshop will cover:

  • introduction to and examples of the use of GIS and spatial approaches in the digital humanities
  • an overview of GIS methods, tools, and terminology; data collection
  • sources of spatial data
  • working with Google Earth Pro to create an interactive map of a poem
  • understanding map mashups
